Te Auriri Wetland
SCOPE:
- Bulk earthworks to create the wetland body
- Construction of wetland diversion channel from Halswell River
- Construction of inlet & outlet structures
- Fish salvage from existing back channel
- Dewatering and watering to control wetland water level to allow planting
- Placing of rock armouring
DESCRIPTION:
This project involved the construction of a restored wetland at Motukarara. 27000m3 of bulk earthworks were undertaken to form the new wetland basin, islands & forebay.
An old back channel of the Halswell River was drained following fish removal by a fish salvage team. Once drained the channel was cleared & deepened to allow water flow from the river the the wetland. New precast concrete inlet & outlet structures were installed.
Grant Hood Contracting maintained a presence on site to control water levels while the landscaping contractor undertook planting.
