Community Support

At Grant Hood Contracting Ltd, we strongly believe in supporting our community. We have been lucky enough to be involved in many projects and causes, including Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue, the Allenton Rugby Club, the Scouts, the Cancer Society, Reach Child Cancer Research and the Lions Club. Our projects have received support from many volunteers along the way.

Yet again in 2019, we are sponsoring Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue.  This is an important service to the people of Canterbury, as it provides access to helicopter rescue for people in emergency situations.  This cause is only partly funded by the Government and we are more than happy to support them carry out their life-saving work.

Grant Hood Contracting Ltd are proud long-term sponsors of the Allenton Rugby Football Club senior B team. When a new rugby pitch was needed, we built a new one suitable for senior grade rugby that involved tree removal and field expansion. Sport is an important part of country life and socializing.

Carolyn was part of the committee for the Scouts who secured $600,000 for a new Scout Hall building in the Mania-o-Roto zone in Mid Canterbury. A large group of volunteers were involved with the project, especially after the requirements changed when the Christchurch earthquake struck. These changes involved the building being raised and a large amount of work was completed to ensure the foundations were secure, Grant donated time and machinery free of charge.

Every year we support the Lions Club by grading the Mt Hutt Ski field road for their annual fundraiser. This fundraiser is the “Discover Mt Hutt Summer Open Day” which is held in February. The grading helps to restore the driving surface of the road, so it is safe for people to drive on.

Grant Hood Contracting Ltd have also supported various cancer fundraising bodies through the Pretty in Pink committee, which Carolyn is part of. This dedicated, small group of professional women donates their time to coordinate two large fundraising events, an annual ball and high tea. In 2016, the Pink Ball raised $23,000 for the Cancer Society and the 2017 High Tea raised $12,000 for Reach Child Cancer Research.

We are proud to support our local community; Ashburton is a vibrant, lively town that is growing rapidly. Investing time, money and expertise in the local community ensures that the town as a whole benefit.
